I like how well Flac Astray conveys movement. I chose “Rarum Makino” first because it is such a pacific picture. She’s just strolling along, no battles, no real exertion, and yet we still recognize she is in motion. This is made more active by being turned slightly on its axis. Wind can blow a skirt when a person is standing still, yet it still adds to the sense of movement.
“紅蓮の海へII” or “To the glowing lotus sea” conveys movement with the bubbles that trail behind her and her forward looking eyes.
“Howling Fist” is the most dynamic. She has just struck a blow. Her body is tensed in a powerful pose, We get these strong diagonal lines and then the vertical strike. There are excellent details like the line of her body being in parallel alignment to the line of the rock formation behind her and the light cast off by her blow on the stone meeting and merging with the light from the sun.
There is a fun mix of action and relaxation in Flac Astray’s photos. For me, what unifies the work into an appealing collection is the vivid sense of motion in the pictures.
