Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
KeKe takes dramatically spare photos, reducing the elements to their essentials. For example, this stunning untitled screenshot of Baobab trees silhouetted against a setting sun. They form a leading line directly to the sun. The horizon is placed according to the Rule of Thirds. The sun is placed by the Golden Mean and the baobab trees are consecutively one-fifth, two fifths, and three fifths from the left. The compositional elements feel organic, not staged, which is, of course, the goal of good composition.
This untitled photo from Star Citizen does not have a visible horizon, but the balcony railing provides a metaphorical one and falls according to the Rule of Thirds. We are about 10° off level, adding an element of dynamic movement with the subject just entering the frame from the right. This creates a feeling of caution, of slowly moving into a space while checking it out.
This untitled picture has the horizon placed by the Rule of Thirds and the planet by the Golden Mean. The ship seems an alien presence, not just in because it is a manmade intrusion on the natural world, but because its saturated black metal and reddish-orange flames are in such contrast to the muted, desaturated sky, terrain, and planet in the back.
Ke Ke has an eye for creating dynamic photos with simple, stark elements. When you look at Ke Ke’s photostream, there is a focus on shapes, the forms of objects, rather than the details. There are many photos in silhouette that are about form and color. The stream is well worth exploring.
