Since NWN partner Sinespace recently extended the deadline for its first-person shooter map contest judged by Erik Wolpaw to May 31st, the development team is awarding a $500 milestone prize to the contestant with the most developed game experience so far.
First prize goes to Sinespace user “AnshumanPadhi”, who created the map depicted in the video above -- an outdoors space with appealing cartoon graphics and lots of variety to the environmental layout (exposed stairs, hills, trees, rock formations, etc.) to encourage stealth and strategy during combat; it also comes with several solo player quests, and a multiplayer King of the Hill challenge at the center of the map. Anshuman is documenting the step-by-step development of his entry on his website -- go here to check it out.
The runner-up (winning $250) is Sinespace user Zvalle20, who is creating a “homage to feudalism with the castle behind the wall:
The town is mostly run down and the few people inside are fighting for survival.” His city comes with secret quests in the church and the villages corn maze, and the city itself is divided into four very different districts for a fun variety of gameplay, including a wealthy neighborhood with many high towers, for vertical, sniper-style combat, and a low-end district that's poorly lit, for suspenseful, close-quarter gunfights (and a place for players to escape and hide).
Honorable mentions for the milestone award go to San Justo City by Sinespace user Esteban Muñoz, a map entry based on the Argentinian city of the same name:
Sinespace’s San Justo City map comes with a police headquarters, hospital, a train station, and many other buildings (depicted here); each player will have their own vehicle and apartment space, and optional quests “from rescuing patients with the ambulance, to pursuing criminals with patrol cars.”
