Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Nevereux is an artist whose work traverses back and forth from first to Second Life so seamlessly I can only be certain it is SL by the groups she uses to share her work. “Pompom Couture” is one that is more clearly Second Life. It is also bold and vibrant. I love that she crops her subject so only half her face is shown. In a way, it makes it more lifelike since in life we are not so symmetrical as we are in Second Life.
She had an exhibition called Decoupage at the VOIR Gallery in December. The name is slightly ironic as you can see in “Watch Me”, a piece from the exhibition. Decoupage is flat, her work is not, rather it is an assemblage of two and three dimensional pieces. It reminds me so much of one of my art teachers who made assemblages with old vintage postcards and oddments he found or created including, for example, bits of fur or a gold-plated dog biscuit shaped like a bone. The pieces are disparate but come together in a synergistic whole created by the artist, a whole that lets you see each piece in a new paradigm.
Her newest series is called Sepia Rainbow and features SL photos like “Skydive” that have a single primary color line that creates context and meaning while most, or all, of the picture in in sepia. She explained that she liked the oxymoronic idea of a sepia rainbow.
Nevereux’s photostream is rewarding to visit no matter how you look at it. Still, because she takes an idea and runs with in, creating a series that explores that idea deeply, it is more illuminating to enjoy her albums. This is her art as curated by her. It brings you in more deeply to see her work organized by theme rather than chronology.
