Here's a walkthrough of a quite amazing Second Life sim: Drune IV - Aftermath (SLurl teleport here), a rusted-over city on a small, tropical island, which somehow survived after an unspecified calamity. (Hey, maybe a new kind of twist on cyberpunk: Tropicalypse!)
Your host in this video above is Ayla Pants, a fun and chatty guide accompanied by a friendly drone, who is immediately greeted by an incredible avatar, who compliments Ayla on her fashion choices. The sim comes with great ambient sound (crashing waves and seabird song, to contrast with the rusting skyscrapers), and, Ayla tells me, looks great throughout the day cycle:
"I was a definite fan of sunset/sunrise. Twilight had some really cool colors going on. Next I'd like to explore with the WindLight set to Ambient Dark. This makes it so only the light sources provided by the objects on the sim light it up. Everything else is pitch black! Crawling through those vines with a flashlight should make for a really cool experience."
Inspired by Ms. Pants, I put on my own pants and gave it a quick visit, and came away impressed. Click here to visit it yourself.
This sim is actually the second incarnation of this place. Drune was the original and it had interiors you could go in. There were I believe 4 apartments, at least a couple bars and lots of other random buildings to go inside. The layout in aftermath is the same. If you went to the original, you would feel as though this is the shell of the place you once saw...before whatever mysterious force turned the city into what it is today...

Hello and thanks for this beautiful review.
May I ask, how do You manage to explore these kind of worlds without any lag or texture loadings, freezes? Can You, please, share what options do You use, because I can't apparently fine tune then properly.
Thank You.
