Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
“Woman of the Wood” by Daze is amazing. I cannot guess how much is Second Life and how much is digital painting, but I don’t care. I love everything about this picture from the woodgrain sky and land to the forest fill in her clothing. Daze centers the photo to give us elements of symmetry (her body, her hands, the trees) and asymmetry (her hair, her eyes) that are in balance. This is an imaginative painting that takes elements from SL and creates something new and exciting.
“Selfie” is from last October, but Halloween is approaching and somehow this captures the anticipation of what seems to be the favorite holiday of many SL residents. I love how fully this captures the “I’ll get you my pretty” feeling with the gnarly teeth that look like they could gnaw on your bones and the bulbous eye that seems as though it could just jump out and follow you around. I fell in love with this photo the minute I saw it.
“Set to Drift” is one of her many stunning landscapes. (Check out the album.) I love how she uses the diagonal to bisect her picture. I know I am reaching back in time for this one, but this is as amazing today as it was then, even with the many enhancements in SL.
Daze organizes her photos in albums for cohesive viewing. She has only done a few this year, but it doesn’t matter. Her old pictures are better than many people’s photos from this week. A highlight is MyDigliani, a collection of avatar portraits inspired by Modigliani.
