Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Mind Carlberg’s photostream is not for pixel prudes. It is possible he is simply allergic to clothing, but that does not keep him from presenting fantastic photos with a subversive wit that delights me. This photo is, of course, perfectly G-rated even though any honest assessment of human sexuality would acknowledge that the bits and bobs that shock are nothing without our minds, not to mention the senses of smell, taste, touch, hearing, and sight. Our faces and our brains, that’s where sex begins.
I love this photo because of the beautiful contrasts of dark and light. It would be a stunning photo of any face, but this face! I love this face! The unapologetic nose, the ears that take no prisoners, and the rough-hewn angularity challenge the Ken-doll blandness of the ordinary avatar. Bravo!
“Whew” finds our hero Malone embracing the sunshine, relieved to find everything still in its proper place. Carlberg does a fair amount of graphic story-telling in his stream. While this stands alone, there he did make an epic erotic comic book called “Shared Bathroom.” Now, I am fairly certain I am not the audience he had in mind, but I can see the skill in composing the comic strip. It is not even close to G-rated.
Carlberg is obviously part of the world of SL art and artists. He creates and participates in art challenges or projects like Naked in a Chair or XX/XY. He goes to exhibitions of other artists. “Maloe_d” is a fabulous photo of the people attending Maloe VanSant’s exhibition. How meta can you get? The avatars are blurred and backlit with Depth of Field used to focus the art. It’s brilliantly done.
In addition to exploring his photostream, it is worth taking a look at his photo albums where he tells stories or examines a theme. In the stream, pictures are in the reverse order, while in galleries, you can see them in the order he intends. In particular, I love the simplicity of Skyline and the boldness of Nightmares. And of course, do not miss the XX/XY examination of gender and gender fluidity that challenged men to express femininity and women to express masculinity.
