Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Duna Gant’s “Winter Wind” would be beautiful if printed on high-quality paper, framed, and hung on my living room wall. Warm sepia tones belie the cold sterility of a winter tree, but then we know the trees are only waiting for spring to sally forth. There is a suggestion of wind from the texture overlays.
“Dance V” has been enhanced by filters and texture layers, giving it the appearance of a watercolor painting. Gant uses the rule of thirds to place her avatar. The texture layer suggests a landscape with trees in the distance. I love the subdued colors.
With “Musical Evening” so much story is told with a piano, and a woman’s feet in elegant pumps. After all, sitting on the piano doesn’t usually begin until late in the evening, even with a chanteuse. The texture layer creates the feeling of age, of a long-ago memory. Gant uses the rule of thirds, placing the legs a third from the right. Light and shadow play a role, but as with many of Gant’s works, the colors are subdued.
Duna Gant’s photostream is too diverse to describe easily. She experiments a lot and also creates art installations in-world such as “We Are Water” She has a delightful series of Dance photos that you can find in an album of their own. Checking out her albums is a great way to understand her work as she did it.
