Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Portilly is not afraid of the dark. This untitled photo shows an embrace of the darkness. Notice that even with the dim lighting, we can see details, the shades in the shadows. I love her willingness to demand something of viewers, to look deeply into the picture to see the window frame, the posts, and other details are there, hidden in the shadows. Good photos are ones that make us stop and look more closely. She is demanding we work at it.
“Furillen” is composed using the Rule of Thirds, but what makes it striking is the artist asking us to work a little harder to appreciate the composition. Again, looking closer is rewarding, revealing a ship, a texture layer that adds depth, and an artist’s eye for framing.
This untitled picture is a beautiful composition. I love the reversal the black and grey reverse and the diagonal line it creates. I like the way blue suggests movement.
Portilly’s stream is full of excellent photos that often demand a second and third look. I love her use of shadow and her fearlessness. I love, too, her pictures of foliage and the exuberant life they portray. There isn’t a single bad picture and many excellent ones.
