For reasons I'll hopefully get to explain soon, I recently spent several hours plunging through Flickr in search of The Most Uniquely Second Life Image Ever. At 3am or so, I found this glorious one above, by Nomi Gothly, "I'll search the flight of whales". (Yes, there's flying whale islands in SL, or at least there once was: Click here to check.)
Why'd I dub this the most SL pic ever? I have several criterion, and I'm challenging readers to top this example:
- Highlights user-generated content (obvi)
- Conveys a sense of "anything is possible here" (also obvi)
- Does not directly reference genres and subcultures which exist elsewhere (sorry steampunkers, Wastelanders, cyberpunkers, and furries -- we love you, but you're everywhere on the Internet)
- Is not similar to images taken in other games (virtual fashionistas and architecture photography fans, you rock, but you're also close cousins to fans of The Sims, Covet, etc. etc.)
- Is jaw-dropping
I think that covers it! Obviously some readers will immediately think "virtual porn", but there's also many virtual porn games out there. (However, I might say some loopy, only-in-SL porn, like a robot/dragon/tiny orgy, might qualify.)
