This glorious scarf looks like an ideal gift for New World Notes readers for the holidays, because it has a great backstory: It's created by Eshi Otawara, a legendary Second Life fashion designer whose famed fish hook dress we were just discussing, based on her original SL design. She sold the SL dress in a Relay for Life fundraiser for a $1700 donation, but the scarf version is just $25 and change. (Pic below.)
This glorious yellow scarf is also available, based on her Aria Pompadour ensemble -- SL pic also below. It's also available as a throw blanket, a wall tapestry, and beyond.
This line of items reflects not just her acclaimed artistry in Second Life, but her current work in the real world fashion industry:
"Ironically, I've been working in men's fashion for the past 5 years as a photography editor for e-merchandising," as Eshi tells me. "So lately I've been wanting to see what some of the images from my Second Life design would look like on apparel in real life.
"The original design was inspired by a mix of Harajuku over-the-top fashions with my influence from Croatia, designer Gordana Radic. And, of course, McQueen."
Expect more crossover works like this for sale from the artist, jumping across time and mediums and even realities:
"Most of my Second Life work," as she puts it, "went from painting into Photoshop and then into Second Life. This one went from SL to painting to Photoshop and into RL merch."
I liked the talent and fashion designs.

A little scary, but it's probably just me. I suspect it's not the artist's intent, but it looks like the skirts are made of fish hooks.
