“The Crows Watch” is an amazing image by The Friendly Otter and one that typifies his stream with high contrast black and white imagery that are all about form. I love the leading lines created by the roof and the row of crows. The composition is very much about contrast and empty space and uses the rule of thirds in situating the birds.
“Kicks” is another excellent photo illustrating how beautifully the golden ratio anchors an image. Again The Friendly Otter is focusing on form with black and white. With just the shoes, the photographer creates a sense of joy.
“Untitled” shows how even with color, The Friendly Otter makes the picture about form and shape. I love how abstract this picture is. Sure, it’s a still life of a table, chair, and some plates but it is nothing like a traditional still life. There is also the fabulous vertical lines of sunlight and diagonal lines of the floor in the opposite direction of the table. It makes it so fresh and original.
I love The Friendly Otter’s photostream. From the abstraction of “Strangers” to the surreal op art of “Dripping Away”, this stream is original, exciting, and beautifully composed.
