Bryn Oh, alias for the anonymous Canadian artist who uses virtual worlds like Second Life and Sansar as her medium (and has a government grant to support that art), is selling bronze sculpture copies of a digital model featured in a recent installation -- if she can get enough pre-sales, that is:
The cost is prohibitive so I am going to put out the option for people to pre -order one of the 30 to be cast. As with the first bronze dancer there will be different price points based on when the cast was created. The first cast being #1 with the last being #30. If you would like to reserve a six inch bronze sculpture then contact me by email [email protected] and I will be your name down for the number you are interested in. If enough are pre-sold then I will go forward with the casting.
Cost runs from $250 to $600 -- roughly typical for an artwork of this size and quality, but on the lower side for someone with such name recognition and a large fanbase-- so I'm curious how her sales go. She's also selling an SL version of the sculpture for L$1000 (i.e. about $4), and is offering a special discount to New World Notes readers (see below).
How does she convert her Second Life art to the real world? She explained her process to me for a previous project:
‘The clay is the base from where you make a mould. The mould has a hard outer shell and a polyurethane rubber or silicone center. Once the mould is finished, you pour wax into the mould creating a replica. This is called the lost wax process. Rather than build with clay, I now will build in Zbrush -- a 3D program which, when used with a pressure sensitive pen tablet, is a bit like working with clay.... After building the model in Zbrush I can then have a 3D print created, and that print now becomes the original from which the lost wax process is taken.”
And if you want to buy a copy of the SL version for half price, message Bryn directly in SL and tell her you'd like the special NWN discount!
