Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Rita Glad’s “Hey you, out there in the cold. Getting lonely, getting old. Can you feel me?” jumped right out at me. For some reason it made me think of Mary Cassatt’s self-portrait. There is the dappled light through trees we cannot see and the relaxed slouch of her body, and of course the impressionistic feeling that comes from a photo that has not been worked over to hyper-realistic perfection.
“Breathe Me” is an extraordinary triptych. Triptychs are usually horizontal, but there is no law against being vertical as this one is. Hieronymus Bosch’s “Garden of Earthly Delights” which was recreated with live avatars in a Kamera Klub project back in 2014. Lots of people make triptychs to make a good picture into art by cropping it into thirds or using three copies at different zooms. Here different people have taken the photographer Jean Guichard’s “Phares dans Tempete Kereon” and made vertical and horizontal triptychs. Rita, as you can see, has taken three different snaps of her avatar in the grass with a tree in the background, but at slightly different angles. Each on its own is a good picture, putting them together exponentiates the visual interest they create.
“Art Will Always Live” is part of a series of photos of Rita as part of art installations. Unlike most people who take pictures of SL art, she doesn’t just snap a picture of the installation or a selfie in front of it. She puts on an outfit that makes her a credible part of the installation. This is black and white, but her dress is red and in the pictures where she has not completely turned to look like an ink sketch, you can see it still works, as though she were integral to the art. It’s clever and something new to me.
I enjoy Rita Glad’s photostream. You may want to use a content filter set to moderate if you’re at work or have kids passing by. Nothing is crude in my opinion, but your mileage may differ.
