Since High Fidelity launched its 3D audio-powered virtual world in May, it has seen a steady increase of groups using it to host various events and conferences, especially those that can no longer be held in the real world due to the ongoing pandemic.
The most prominent so far is probably this one: The Mandela Mile, an annual event honoring the birthday of both former United Nations head of Kofi Annon and the legendary activist/politician Nelson Mandela, whose birthday is July 18. Featuring appearances by a number of top international pop stars like Yemi Alade and Teniola Apata, the event's Step Up! Afterparty 24 runs from 3pm-5pm Pacific on July 17 -- click here for more info and RSVP for a free ticket.
Mandela Mile's event producer for the Step Up After Party in High Fidelity is a firm called Analytic Events, which happened to discover Philip Rosedale's new world in a uniquely cool way:
"[P]ianist Elew, who performs at most of our events in at the World Economic Forum in Davos, introduced us to Philip," Analytic Events' Josh Brockner tells me. "That night I sent a link over to Kojo Annan, Kofi Annon’s only son, as we were looking at ways to better connect people than your traditional YouTube live event. He instantly got his wife and they decided right then that this was the answer they had been looking for. "
The concert will be pre-recorded, but the artists themselves will be on hand live in High Fidelity:
"The musicians will be on the platform hanging out with their fans," Brockner explains. "[We're] more focused on the experience of being able to connect a group of friends and enjoy celebrating Nelson Mandela’s birthday and his amazing life!"
The event in High Fidelity already has 500+ RSVPs, Brockner tell me, and that's before the artists in attendance have started promoting it to friends and family, or before promoting it on social media. So along with honoring Mandela, this should be a great test case of High Fidelity used to stage a massively attended event with people logging in from all over the world.
Once again, RSVP here.
