Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Eoleon Elcano posted “World on Fire” when wildfires were spreading throughout the West. My own state lost a million acres to fire and some 40,000 people have been evacuated. The house I rented when I first moved here was burned to the ground. The smoke that permeated the air in Portland was so intense, I could taste it if I licked my lips despite having the doors and windows closed. This picture brilliantly captures that wild intensity and is so timely. In her “About” page she says she uses Black Dragon, PhotoShop CS6 and a graphic tablet for editing. I am always intrigued and impressed by Second Life artists responding to first life crises. I think she captured the intensity of our wildfires.
More extraordinary pictures ahead:
“Holding You” is the first picture of Eoleon’s that I saw, one of Samantha Yates faves. Yes, I haunt people’s faves to find new people. I had never seen her stream before and just fell in love with this beautifully done metaphor. I love that she is backlit, a silhouette who can be anybody and everybody and that the kite represents someone. I am guessing, but I believe she is holding on to her memories of someone lost to death, not to a fractured relationship. She has a poem in her description that ends, “I never will release the very last rope that connects you with our world.“
Ceci n'est pas une banane is what the text says in homage to René Magritte’s “Ceci n'est pas une pipe” which she explained was to her five-year-old self an introduction to art as something beyond itself. I love this homage and love that it was made in Second Life.
Eoleon Elcano has a fascinating photostream with a wide range of styles and subjects. I never saw her work before this week and I am enchanted.
