NeosVR, an impressive indie social VR metaverse project backed by Patreon funders (featured previously here) continues to impress. In the latest update, lead developer Frooxius shows off its latest feature: the ability to import files and share them with other users. And rather than accomplish this with a 2D pop-up menu (the obvious solution), Frooxius makes it truly immersive: The files are 3D objects that can be manipulated, moved around, and given to other users in VR. You know, the same way file sharing has been depicted in fiction about the metaverse forever.
I have to think this would quickly get tedious on a repeated basis. But then again, if you're in a full VR rig in a full furry avatar, I feel like avoiding tediousness is not exactly the point.
Also, between Frooxius and friends in NeosVR and CooperTom and his equally inventive pals in VRChat, is metaverse development being rapidly taken over by furries?

Don't knock it until you've tried it. I'm usually a furry in IMVU. Just like donning a fursuit, it puts one in a different mindset. Furrys often think outside the box.

For some reason, I don't have an answer to why, if you take the more techy subset of a virtual world's population, you'll also end up netting a higher degree of furries.

(However, yes, NeosVR is basically the furry motherland, with the occasional ones in VRChat being the occasional foreign exchange students amidst all the anime and pop culture characters.)

Heh. I suppose I should have commented on the true reason for the story, which was the ability to transfer files seamlessly between users. Its a very useful feature. The Meta company had done something similar to this a few years back:
https://youtu.be/P79mk_LHOIk
Particular to that video is the ability to move files from the HMD to the phone and back again. I'm sure that the Hololens can do this as well by now. But I'm talking AR. This concept should be doable in a VR headset as well. This is awesome work done by Frooxius and his team. The next step up the road will eventually be the ability to transfer assets not just between users, but between worlds. Frooxius will send something from NeosVR to CooperTom in VRChat. Then CooperTom can pass it along to Someone in AltspaceVR. Then that person can send it along from Altspace, to Second Life. Hopefully you get the idea.
Good job, guys!
