In case you missed it last week, here's the Discovery Channel's BattleBots fight between SlapBox and Sharko, prototyped in Second Life by Artorius Constantine, owner of SL's Nano Station Technologies store. Sent to us via BattleBots super-fan Devin Vaughn, it is almost more brutal and merciless as a major fashion drop in SL, which is saying something.
"Overall that was one of the best episodes of BattleBots I have seen in a long time," Devin reports. "Good even matches, much spark and explosions! Sharko had a good match against a rookie bot SlapBox, and a crazy moment: Shark bites down good, but then SlapBox lifted the entire shark, all 250 pounds was lifted into the air, totally inverted and shot flames down the mouth of poor Sharko who refused to let go. Wow."
Watch above to see what happens next! As to why it happened, Constantine and his crew have a good post-mortem in Reddit's /BattleBots community:
He has a fatal flaw. 2 actually.
The wheels are to far forward & the ESC ramps up to fast, and that caused the front to lift up.
The wheels need to be moved backwards a couple inches and an adjustment made to the ESC/ Tx communication to make it ramp up to speed slower. The ESC is easy but moving the wheels means a whole new frame.
The other fatal flaw is the long axle and chain reduction system. That has to go. He needs to go back to the NPC's I love so much. Dead simple and when mounted right with a billet gearbox they rock.
The motors had so much power so fast that combined with the bad COG he always rode nose high. Fatal flaw for a BattleBot.
I'm not an avid BattleBots fan but it looks like bots like Sharko and Slap Box should be fighting in totally different type classes, since their approach to combat is so different. (Flipper vs. Rammer)? In any case, hope I can write about more virtual world bot beatdowns soon.
