I've only casually followed Occupy White Walls, a sandbox creation MMO for PC and Mac, but now that the platform just added music streaming (trailer above, more on that below), here's a brief snapshot courtesy from Yarden Yaroshevski, CEO of OWW creator StikiPixels, via Mario Gerosa, the company press officer (who was heavily involved in the Second Life art world back in the day):
People build galleries with over 2,500 architectural building blocks, we don't allow uploading of 3D meshes.Building galleries is collaborative and in real time, players can invite others to build with them.We don't have [concurrency] limits 'per room'. Galleries can easily hold up to 100 players simultaneously. We don't release monthly active user numbers but they are in the tens of thousands range.
As for my crux question, "Why should someone create in OWW when they could do so on a larger platform like ROBLOX or Fortnite?", Yarden's answer:
"Because OWW is special in its focus on art (has a dedicated ground-breaking art discovery/promotion AI and a huge art collection for example) , also beautiful assets (real architecture created by our professional team in Unreal) and a slightly more grown up user base than ROBLOX."
And now, as well, music streaming support:
In a world first, players in OWW can place speakers in their environments and set them to play specific tracks from Soundcloud. In principle, any free track will work. You can have different tracks playing in specific areas of your gallery by placing individual speakers throughout (you can have as many as you like).
For example, you could dedicate an entire gallery to an album, with each exhibition space empowering and reflecting its own track. Visitors who are curious about the music they hear can click on a speaker to see the artist and the track details (even the image), and of course can click to go to the relevant SoundCloud page.
“A big part of our vision is promoting art and artists; musicians are a part of that. We’re inviting you to see the music; hear the art’’ says Yarden Yaroshevski, founder and CEO of [OWW creator] StikiPixels. “We’d love to collaborate more closely with artists and musicians in the future.”
Cool potential for artists in various mediums working together. Much more info here.
