Standard weather options above -- click here for fun weather including a rain of literal cats and dogs
The Mega Weather Maker from The Really Useful Scripts Corner (a proud sponsoring partner to NWN) is a handy device for unleashing all kinds of weather scenes on your Second Life property -- including, as the creator puts it: “Blizzards, raining cats and dogs (literally), falling cherry blossoms, an Aurora Borealis, and even striking intruders on your land with lightning bolts!”
There’s an in-world location to try her Weather Maker before you buy: Click here to teleport, and read the sign for step-by-step instructions.
Now in its 6th edition, store owner Ms. Ling was inspired to create this system, she tells me, because there were hardly any others in SL that could generate weather effects sim-wide -- and those that did exist tended to be too script or prim heavy.
Also, she adds, “the rain always fell through the roof of your house as particles are not affected by prims.” It’s why the version 6 of the Mega Weather Maker comes with a free Really Useful Rain Resistant Roof -- see below, along with some of the fun weather effects, including cherry blossoms and the literal rain of cats and dogs:
“Under the guidance of a more experienced scripter, I managed to fashion a weather emitter made from mega-prims, using just 1 to 2 scripts to cover an area of 50x50m, while a competing system was using 48 scripts to cover a smaller area. ”
In other words, as the Marketplace listing puts it, the Mega Weather Maker is “engineered using mega-prims and advanced scripting to deliver massive area effects with minimum scripts and prims.”
While the current version uses particle-based snow and rain, Grace7 plans to update that soon with a mesh option, so now is a good time to install her system before it’s upgraded.
How the Rain Resistant Roof works: “The Roof comes with a script that talks to the precipitation emitter and calculates the distance between the emitter and the Roof. It then communicates to the emitter overhead to adjust the lifespan of the rain or snow particle so that it does not rain/snow below the roof. The script can be dropped into your own building roof as well.”
