Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Vanka Machiavello’s “Art is in the eye of the beholder” caught my eye as I was browsing Flickr with its simple red, black, and white color story. I love how the red on the wall seems to bounce back and color the street. I love the grittiness of the textures in the brick and the bike. It seems to tell us a story without even having an avatar to convey the message.

Of course Vanka shoots more than bikes. She also loves to take pictures of herself and experiment with how lighting can hide and highlight different elements of her avatar. This makes her self-portraits more interesting than the average snap. Her attention to lighting and love of black and white create real drama as in “Wrap your arms around my weakness.”
I think “His and Hers” is my favorite bike picture yet. There they are parked side by side by the beach and we know the whole story. Two people have cycled to the beach for a walk, maybe a picnic. It’s all love and romance with just two inanimate objects and a lovely setting. I am sure some will suggest those are two girl’s bikes. If you read to the end, modern bikes really do not need the crossbar and are made without it.
I enjoy Vanka Machiavello’s photostream. She wants to do more than just snap herself in a cute outfit and pretty place. She wants to play with the lighting and the color story. There is a lot of variety though a fair number of pics rely on shadow to keep the pictures in the NSFW safe zone.
