Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
DeFoe has an extraordinary collection of pictures in his photostream. “Isle of Scotland” is dreamy and fantastical with ruins on top of what we might call a mesa if it were in the West, a free-standing tablelike rock. The ruins almost completely fill the top of the rock. It must have quite the stairway. I love the smoky fog as though they have been burning their field to clear for seeding, the smoke blending almost seamlessly into the fog. He also provides a link to corresponding music here.
To see how DeFoe makes art of the most mundane, click here:
“D.FP is a shot of a lamp, a ladder, some rope, and a key. What could be more mundane, but with the use of light and shadow and close cropping, it is elevated from the mundane to the artful. It is just one picture from a album of shots at the sim Downfall. SLurl is here.
“V.B.W” is emblematic of DeFoe’s work. Monochromatic, atmospheric, and captivating. This captures a city with a river or canal and a bridge in the distance. There is this immediacy created by the the use of depth of field and blurring in the foreground and background so only a portion is sharply defined.
DeFoe’s photostream is a mix of first and Second Life, though his real life pictures are noted by being put in a Real Life album. Sometimes, though, it’s hard to tell the difference as he can make our two dimensional screen life seem as tangible as the real world. It was so hard to choose just three pictures to feature because everyone is worthy of being highlighted. Follow this artist, his work is extraordinary.
