Ethan Lane’s “The Heist” is an action shot of a thief jumping off a balcony to escape the three-headed guard dog Cerberus. That he is robbing the joint reminds me of my own personal catnip, the caper story.. I love the cleverness of the caper undiscovered until the crew is safely in another country as the credits roll. Add an element of camp and you have the perfect caper whether it’s “Ocean’s Eleven,” “The Italian Job,” or the original “Mission Impossible” series. I wonder. Does Cerberus make this camp?

“The Send Off” tells another story, that of the beloved sent away. With that title, I assume it’s for more than two weeks. You see her in the background. She is an indistinct silhouette bathed in light while he is cast in shadow you can barely see his partially turned head, so close to looking back to see her one last time, but resisting the temptation as much as he can. There are dozens of stories you could tell about this picture. Which one is true?
“Everybody was…” shows Ethan's humor. Inspired by the novelty song “Kung Fu Fighting” he took some statues and a pika figure and made a clever and unique use of those figures. The picture is simply charming.
In a way, charming is a good word for describing Ethan Lane’s photostream. He tells stories that evoke familiar stories and the emotions that animate them. From a moment of road rage at tourists to escaping literally from the hounds of hell, Ethan is fitting hundreds of lives into his Second Life. And thanks to Charley Keeley-Keating for the suggestion. Though I have written about a few of Ethan’s pictures here and here, I had not featured him in his own story before.
