Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
You can always rely on Second Life residents to respond to cultural phenomena with pictures and activities that bring the key elements into SL. Ginger Chevalier’s “Front-Man Squid Game” seems an excellent introduction to residents’ homage to the streaming series that has taken the world by storm. I have not watched it, though, and my exposure has been limited to seeing plurks and tweets that say “OMG, Squid Game!” I got the impression that it’s pretty gory, so I am unlikely to watch it. Scary movies give me nightmares.
This picture does a good job of showing a sort of hierarchy. These are the people with power. The one in black is clearly the leader, wearing a suit and a mask with human features while the others are in uniforms that seem designed to keep them anonymous as well as safe from liquid and gas hazards.
“VIP Tiger Mask Squid Game” is another pic from Ginger and it’s lush. There is only the mask on a table with light shining on it and reflecting back. The simplicity makes it seem like a jewel.
Next up: A scene based on the show's eerie paste Escher staircase -- now on sale in Second Life!
If M. C. Escher had colored paint. The “Labyrinth Staircase” is another from Ginger Chevalier who is the creator of many Squid Game outfits and elements for her store Absolute Creation.
AmyElle Atheria posted this live-action shot from the game “Red Light, Green Light.” That giant doll is so menacing. It is funny how scary a toy that is out of place can be. I think of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man in “GhostBusters.” This doll presents the same kind of menace.
Exedra & Guaio Jonston’s “Squid Game” shows the tiger mask in use. I am guessing she is a sort of Vanna White, but that’s a wild guess. I also thought those black boxes with a pink bow were the prizes and yet the description says it is a coffin. Now, that’s funny!
Blut Voom’s “The Golden Mask” is so different from most of the Squid Game pictures. It’s dark and mysterious, unlike the game show I understand it to be. I like this subdued picture. I don’t know if the background is relevant to the game, but it reminds me of ancient cave paintings and the hands seem menacing.
Asheson MacCàise illustrates why I am not watching. It is a powerful picture with one of the referees killing a contestant in “The Most Dangerous Game.” I don’t know if it’s a new permutation of that story from 8th Grade English class, but it seems so.
Molly Monroe titled her picture “You will be eliminated.” Eek!
MotherSpirit Ocello created a composite of the race from the front and back. I love that! I also like how well it shows movement with flying hair and the way the smooth grace of movement can look awkward and akimbo when stopped in a still picture.
I have been collecting Squid Game pictures in a gallery, so if you want to take a look at more pictures, many of them excellent, click here -- and if you want add your own images, don't forget to tag them with #SquidGameSL!

I get that games inspired to Battle Royale (the manga) have become very popular over the past few years, in turn driving attention to similar works and movies and now this TV show on Netflix.
However, this normalization of insane violence and ruthless slaughter is... disturbing. Okay Fortnite and everything and most picture here, but I don't know why - even for Second Life imagery - why normal parts of your body such as female nipples are NSFW, while getting a graphic picture in my face of an insane murder and blood spurting out the head of the victim is fine. I mean Asheson MacCàise's picture above. I wish there was a warning.

I have been absolutely amazed by how popular Squid Game has been on Second Life. There are a great number of products and scenes available, along with a couple of sims where you can attempt your luck at the Squid Game.
I am so honoured to have my photo featured here.
