Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
I thought I would end my column this year by telling you what I like in Second Life blog and am more likely to feature in 2022:
- I like to see fresh, unique fashion styling. If you are wearing an outfit right out of the box, it is less interesting than if you mix and match from different designers.
- I like clothes. I am tired of the 50 Shades of Lingerie posts. I am tired of ass cheeks and nipple covers. If everybody is doing it, it’s not transgressive and brave. It’s boring.
- I like stories, if your picture tells a story, I will probably love it.
- I like text. I love blogs with narrative. If you love something, tell me why. If you want to share that you got an A in history, do it. Let us into your life. Show more of yourself than a picture.
- I like blogs that are simple. No sparkling banners, no music, no autoplay anything.
- I like blogs with small banners. If I have to page down to see your content, I might not see your content at all.
- I like unique avatars. Feel free to be a frowny-face or a cyborg or a furry.
- I like slice-of-life pictures that show you doing something.
- I like credits that include the creators’ names. There’s so much rebranding and the use of special characters in store names, so give us creator names so we can search for something that is less likely to change.
- I like originality. Perhaps because I am constantly browsing Flickr groups featuring bloggers but there are days when it feels like it’s all the same old stale woman laying on her bed in lingerie. I don’t know why there are twenty lingerie pics to one with clothing, but come on, can’t you see how banal it is when everybody is doing the same thing?
Now here’s a look at my favorite bloggers of 2021:
One of my favorite bloggers this year is Kouralee whose fabulously grumpy avatar just tickles my fancy. I love her style and the confidence with which she wields her smirk. She is absolutely a blast. I featured her here. I found her blog refreshingly minimal and fashion-focused.
MorningBeasty’s Morning’s Bloggings was another favorite blog. I loved her wildly imaginative roleplay styling with an emphasis on cybernetic and terrifying avatars. She is ghoulishly fun to watch. I featured her here.
Kirca’s Disaster Case is a favorite blog of mine because she is someone who regularly blogs things I might wear. I identified with her style and loved her well-organized blog. I wrote about it here.
Jacque Valentine’s eponymous blog is delightful. I love his wild style that draws from the men’s and women’s departments. Jacques has no interest in limiting his options and even less interest in following the rules. I bet he wears white shoes after Labor Day. I wrote about his blog here.
I really like Belinha Aquina’s Garota Estila blog. Her style is fresh and cute, a kawaii style that is not too saccharine. I like her fashion sense and enjoy her blog though I do wish she shrunk her masthead down a bit. I wrote about her blog here.
Trouble Dethly’s Tapas and Clothes is a rare double-feature blog. He combines the two things I really look for in a blog, unique photos and writing that is more than just the credits. I wrote about this blog here and here.
My absolute favorite favorite column about blogs this year was about Parthnoid, who does not provide links, eschewing the commercial function of blogging to focus on its journalistic self-exploration. I hesitated about including this blog as Sian does not seek attention and is not blogging for recognition of any sort. However, I do think their honesty is a gift to readers. We are all inclined to protect ourselves, to avoid sharing too much for fear that others will exploit our vulnerability and honest. Sian takes that risk, an incredibly generous gift to us all. Let us all hope that their vulnerability and openness are not used against them. I wrote about it here.
So there it is. Happy New Year. I have no resolutions. I never do them because when I get the idea I want to do something, I don’t wait around to start until the New Year. Like studying Swedish, I made up my mind that I wanted to do it and began in October of 2020. I didn’t wait until January 1. If I had, I probably would have forgotten that I had the idea and would never have done it. Now, though, I can watch a TV show in Swedish and recognize a lot of it.
