Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Hilaire Beaumont’s “The Came Wearing Masks” was posted to Flickr on Monday. It shows a person in a plague mask and seems a perfect picture for this second plague year Christmas with a new, more infectious variant of COVID. He provided a link to a song of the same name, a song that makes me think of a dirge, and kindly notes he shot the picture at Petit Trianon. [Click here to visit]

Hilaire created “If I Be Wrong” for a photo challenge that asked people to redo an old picture -- click here to see the original -- and show how much they have developed as an artist over time. This is not an editing challenge. People take a completely new pic as you can see the new picture has him in a different color shirt and is taken at a different angle, one that more clearly suggests contemplation. I love how much more naturalistic the setting seems and how the softening from depth of field makes it seem so much more real. His musical choice was Wolf Larsen’s “If I Be Wrong” which seems a perfect mood-setting song. On a side note, too few people ask themselves this question.
“Perfect Day” is paired with one of my favorite songs by Lou Reed. This picture shows the emotional range of his pictures from the grim plague doctor to the contemplative “If I Be Wrong” to the exuberant joy of “Perfect Day.” Of course, the song is more complex with the admission, “You made me forget myself / I thought I was someone else / Someone good.” But complexity is far more interesting, isn’t it?
I love Hilaire Beaumont’s work. It’s full of roleplay pics with some landscapes and a few contemporary pictures as well. Overall, his collection of work is thought-provoking. He is not afraid of the dark, many of his pictures are as dimly lit as a Rembrandt with just a small flicker of light. I love his use of shadows and light. He often provides SLurls so you can find the location for your own pics. He also provides apt musical choices with his pictures. Definitely someone to follow.
