Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
The war continues, and so does the art created in Second Life, in opposition to the invasion and in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
The Dance Queens, an in-world group that promotes and fosters dance in Second Life, held a fundraiser last weekend for several humanitarian aid organizations in support of the people of Ukraine. (Watch the program on YouTube here.) I love this picture from the event, full of life and energy and just enough chaos, shot by Angelika Schmertzin.

I love “Winds of Change” by Jo Molinaro. I love the subtlety, working in the yellow and blue Ukrainian flag colors with the sky. I also love the uncertainty of the picture. It captures this moment in time so well. Will democracy or tyranny prevail? We don’t know. In the description, he asks which way the world will shift, “Towards the future, where some actions become totally abhorrent and unacceptable? Or a regression into a barbaric past, back to the logic of spheres of influence, historical justification and imperial aspirations?” The answer is unknowable, but the people of Second Life and the people of Ukraine give me hope.
“Stand with Ukraine” by Pokute Burt reminds us that this war is not fought miles from where people live over who controls this or that pass or river. It’s fought in the cities and brings with it civilian casualties, including children.
Last night, someone shared a young girl singing in a bomb shelter:
OK, why not start the day with tears? https://t.co/aWncInoiJI

My thoughts narrowed from the “Ukrainian people '' to that one child and wondering what will happen to her. We may never know.
