Via VR scout Adeon, here's a very good case from YouTuber ThrillSeeker to keep an eye (and a haptic finger in the wind) out for BONELAB, from indie studio Stress Level Zero, creator of the unexpected VR hit BONEWORKS from 2019. Like that game, BONELAB has highly responsive physics and avatar customization, with this new version compatible with the Quest 2 and its install base of some 11-12 million consumers. Even more intriguing, BONELAB's teaser trailer strongly suggests that player modding will be a major feature to the game after it rolls out. Or to put it another way: BONELAB could become the Garry's Mod for VR.
Teaser trailer and feature description below from the Steam page:
Physics to the core: Boneworks' realistic physics systems fully improved and polished. Interact with the game world with consistent confidence.
Visceral VR combat: Using a variety of ranged, melee, and exotic physics weapons, engage enemy encounters with an entire armory at your disposal.
Be anyone you want: Custom avatar importing enables you to play through the game looking however you want, with physical stats to match.
I'm resisting the urge to say anything like "BONELAB could become the best metaverse platform for VR!", especially because full multi-user support, let alone any user economy, is lacking. But given that Garry's Mod has sold over 20 million copies, becoming a VR version of that would be a pretty impressive feat in itself.
