Second Life residents often stick to quotidian subjects, fashion, décor, and roleplay. At times, though, the events of the world break through and they respond with their art. On Friday, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the right to abortion. The vast majority of Americans disapprove, but the Court is not accountable to anyone. Whiskey Monday’s “Futile Dissent” gets at that dilemma. The flowers make me think of masses of people out in the streets protesting with the certain knowledge that the Supreme Court does not care.

The reaction to the decision was worldwide with widespread shock that the United States was turning to theocracy that elevated some religious beliefs above others. Some religions allow abortion and even encourage it to save the life of the mother. Grazia Horwitz offers solidarity from across the Atlantic with “A woman’s body is hers alone.”
“Don’t tread on my P” from MoonRavenn Loon gives us a reworking of the Gadsden Flag with the rattlesnake forming a uterus. The Gadsden Flag was the flag of the Continental Marines during the Revolutionary War.
Scylla Rhiadra’s “We Interrupt ourprogramming for this special announcement” gets at the central question. My body, my choice. Bodily autonomy is important to being a free person. People who think wearing a mask impinges on their freedom are perfectly happy to force others to bear children against their will. It’s a hypocrisy that knows no bottom.
It always excites me to see Second Life responding to events in our first lives. So many want to paint Second Life as a hedonistic universe, but our residents keep proving them false.

So are there any nice SL spots celebrating the preservation of life that will follow the Supreme Court's decisions to support states' rights?
