Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Christina Geddins-Swot’s recent “Cyber Meets Watercolours” appeals to me so much. I love how the background became an abstraction of color. The avatar looks painted. This is achieved through using filters in photo-editing, but she had to used depth-of-field in the original photo to blur the background so it would become so abstract. The planning for this watercolor began with the Second Life screenshot that she turned into a work of art.

“Red Shine” also looks like a painting. Again, to create an effective screenshot to painting, you have to have an idea of your desired outcome when you take the screenshot. Blurring the background with depth-of-field in the original grab is certainly easier than having to paint their abstraction in photo-editing software. Her blog has three photo tutorials, one on shooting pics in Second Life, one on using Photoscape X edit pics, and a third on using PhotoShop. PhotoScape X is free. I hope she soon does an editorial on turning a screenshot into a painting.
I’m always happy to see an SL resident supporting democracy and freedom in the real world. This “I Stand With Ukraine” photo is one of the standing next to a poster tropes that so many people shared but it’s made more interesting with her use of what was probably a light-leak overlay [click here and arrow down to light leak.] and the slight diagonal which is strategically offset by the avatar’s pose.
Christina Geddins-Swot’s photostream is full of pictures of her life and fashion styling for her blog. They are all excellent but I was more taken by her recent direction in creating paintings from Second Life screenshots. Her stream is fun to follow and has many pictures of her and her partner enjoying their lives in SL.
