Registration is now open for Metaverse Safety Week, an online conference from XR Safety Initiative (XRSI), the brainchild of Linden Lab veteran Kavya Pearlman.
"It is essential to getting things right at every level. especially when it comes to safety, privacy and cybersecurity," as she tells me. "Currently besides the XRSI privacy and safety framework there are literally no frameworks that factor these aspects into the risks assessment, along with factoring in several converging technologies."
This is probably why we regularly see huge privacy crises like this one happening in metaverse platforms even when they're backed by companies spending billions to produce them.
And the problems seems to be getting worse, not better:
Kavya Pearlman eh? Theres a name that rings a bell (from these very pages)

(You can still find the original court doc online - is a fascinating read.)
"Cambridge Analytica 2.0 in the making" is spot on. This should be a good one.

It's very unfortunate that a lot of the current and future safety and privacy issues of metaverse apps are dwarfed by the financial damage done on a daily basis by the many frauds involving blockchain technologies that are claimed to be essential for the Metaverse.
I wonder whether the blockchain/crypto/nft/web3 hype will survive much longer. And if not, will its downfall also bring down the Metaverse hype? (Thanks to Meta, the two might soon be so closely associated with each other that one might not be able to survive without the other.)
