Update: Marketplace listing and description for EEP settings has been updated below!
Elie recently posted gorgeously grungy photos like these to his Twitter and the lighting was so moodily perfect, I first thought they might be photos from his real life apartment.
But no, this is his skybox in Second Life, shot with Firestorm and some of his custom-made EEP and WindLights:
Above: The artist in his skybox
"I’ve accumulated and decorated the apartment over the past four to five months. I think I started in July or June. I guess the key is just I would look for things that were realistic. I know some people use second life as a fantasy embellishment, but I enjoy making my second life as close to the real life as possible when it comes to decoration. These photos that came about because everyone wanted to see the full depth of my skybox."
The EEP setting depicted here are available for L$200 from his Marketplace page.
"I made [them] myself, just for the skybox -- nothing crazy, just a dark EEP with minimal sun/moon shadows."
Elie tells me he'd like to have a full homestead region open to the public some day, but in the meantime, his skybox is by invitation only.
I really like this particular use of EEP to create a realistic, moody atmosphere, and would love to see more. Cajsa and I were recently searching for Flickr images tagged with "#EEP", but there weren't many that immediately popped up. My impression is that the original WindLight is still the default standard for SL image creators and that EEP is not being leveraged anywhere near enough as it could be. (Fair/unfair assessment?)
Anyway, if you've come across some recently, or if you're creating EEP settings yourself, please share links in Comments below.
