Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Cecilia Nansen has created a special photo album offering her photographic tributes to her favorite authors and a favorite photographer. I didn’t need her description to recognize the iconic features of Virginia Woolf. She even captures how Woolf seemed to be looking inward, interrogating herself as well as the world around her. Here she captures the vivacious confidence of Karen Blixen, author of “Out of Africa” and “Babette’s Feast.” (Real life photo here.) I could watch the film “Babette’s Feast” a hundred times and not tire of the simple kindness and humanity that shines through. “Out of Africa” is more famous. You might be more familiar with her under her pen name Isak Dineson. There are many people in Second Life who love Goth, so perhaps her “Seven Gothic Tales” will delight them.
Her “Sylvia Plath” is a bit prettier than the original Sylvia -- click here to compare -- but she captures the pain she seemed to deal with. The tragedy of Sylvia Plath and the other poet Assia Wevill, who not only killed herself but their daughter strikes at the heart. I find myself torn between disgust for Ted Hughes who was in bed with Assia when Sylvia killed herself and pity for him. At least he did not live to see the suicide of Sylvia and his son, Nicholas. What a tragic family and so much of that grief is right there in her eyes.
Cecilia Nansen is a great photographer. She likes to challenge herself to recreate photos of famous people like Freddie Mercury or Sinead O’Connor or offer her tribute to great photographers like Saul Leiter. She even offers an amazing tribute to “the most beautiful place on earth.” She also creates powerful photos from her own imagination such as this gorgeous bit of geometry. Follow her, she will bring beauty to your life. Bonus: she offers perfect musical accompaniment.
