Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Meet SLLR, the Sad, Lonely, Little Robot. This is Chiara Baroni’s project featuring a little robot and its adventures in Second Life. You can find the pictures in her SLLR album. Her description begins the story:
It had been weeks since The Wind. Three weeks, six days, 15 hours and 38 minutes, to be exact. The gust of radiation and toxins swept by in less than a second. But it disintegrated every single living thing. Instantly.
The robot, designed to serve the humans in various analytical, physical and strategic capacities, just sat there. For those weeks, days and hours. Waiting for, some sort of, instruction, or, command. Some sign of life. Or, purpose.
But even the crudely sentient program within him, could figure out—eventually—none of that was going to happen. He powered up his servos, and crept out from the makeshift elevated bunker, to scan the landscape. “Nothing.” . . . He thought to himself.

The seventh in the series introduces Sad, Lonely, Little Robot to the first living things he sees, some sheep that somehow survived the culling of all carbon-based life. It’s a beautiful scene, and incongruence in the machine world. Is it significant? I don’t know. The story doesn’t get that far yet.
It’s hard to choose a top three pics, but I love the thought that went into this one, with the traffic lanes and lines drawing your eye to the tiny SLLR. We see how small it really is. Then, in the description, Chiara points out even more details such as how she posed SLLR to reflect the walk signal man.
Chiara Baroni’s photostream is varied. I was initially drawn to an SLLR pic, but when I went to her stream, I saw such wildly divergent styles of pictures, I wondered if they were from the same person. Then I checked her albums page and there the pictures come together thematically and you can see a consistent style within the different projects.
One reason her pictures are so divergent is that she shoots Other People and their pictures reflect them more than her, an extraordinary example of truly seeing her subjects. Her Scenes and Details album shows off her excellent landscapes. So you see, sometimes when a stream feels a bit chaotic, it is worth checking the albums where order can be found.
