From the whitepaper:

> Interoperability is the key idea for both content and value creation

I wonder how beneficial perfect content interoperability really is for creators. For example:

- Interoperability might lead to excessive competition: If consumers can buy relevant content anywhere, then there are no small markets but only one big global market where even the smallest creator has to compete with every other creator, including the biggest brands with the biggest advertisement budgets. Small markets provide visibility even for products by very small creators - without them, the products of small creators are drowning in a sea of better marketed products (including products generated by AIs).

- Interoperability might lead to more unfair competition: the competition in one big global market might lead to more unfair competition, including creators who infringe intellectual properties to gain unfair advantages. A small creator might then not only compete with the biggest brands, but also with fake brands and counterfeit products offered at a fraction of the price of original products.

There are reasons why countries in the real world protect some of their markets to various degrees. Not all of these reasons are bad.

Luther Weymann

"Virtual world communities are what make metaverse platforms thrive, and virtual content/experiences is generally only valuable to them within the context of their shared virtual world. Or if you like, inside their walled garden."

Thank you, that perfectly describes Luther Weymann's enjoyable fifteen years in Second Life.

Chief Metaverse Officer

He's completely deluded. Consumers don't want to have to install Metamask, exchange their cash for cryptocurrency then pay exorbitant gas prices in order to do something that's normally as easy as putting in your credit card details. Also you don't need blockchain to create OBJ, VRM, GLB for interoperability. They aren't even stored on the blockchain, only the metadata is. This is another nerd thinking everyone else in the world is excited about new technical protocols.
