Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Sometimes a picture is so outstanding, I just want to focus on it. “LETCIRREN. never” by Ren Matsura is just that sort of picture. When I saw it, I gasped. It is striking in its simplicity. It is stark, disciplined, austere even. But it is so powerful because of its simplicity, the restrained colors, the solidity of the wood platform. It all comes together perfectly.

“Push Up” is very simple at first glance, someone running through the daisies. But look more closely, the feet are bloodied. So is her knee. Daisies haven’t any thorns. So there’s a story here and we get to invent it.
“Pacify Her” is another intriguing picture. It’s a question of scale. How is she smaller than the flowers?
Ren Matsura’s photostream rewards close attention. At first glance, her pictures are simple with few elements to distract but when you look closer, they prompt so many questions. They operate on two levels, and maybe more.
