Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Diney McAllen, like many Second Life residents, uses her art to advocate for change in real life. “Missing in Action” reminds us that houseless people are too often forgotten. They are missing in action and no one is wearing a bracelet until they come home. I love to see people use art for a larger purpose, to make us think, and to help foster change. This is not to deprecate the value of pictures that are purely beautiful. Beauty lifts the spirit.

“To Love a Swamp…” is a lovely picture with a teleport link so you, too, can love a swamp. [To teleport, click here] Diney rewards reading her descriptions. She often provides quotes that make the picture even more meaningful.
“To love a swamp, however, is to love what is muted and marginal, what exists in the shadows, what shoulders its way out of mud and scurries along the damp edges of what is most commonly praised. And sometimes its invisibility is a blessing. Swamps and bogs are places of transition and wild growth, breeding grounds, experimental labs where organisms and ideas have the luxury of being out of the spotlight, where the imagination can mutate and mate, send tendrils into and out of the water.” ― Barbara Hurd, Stirring the Mud: On Swamps, Bogs, and Human Imagination
And sometimes she just has fun. This looks like an album cover, maybe for Cream or Yes. Or maybe? I just love it. It reminds me a bit of Terry Gilliam’s work. It looks illustrated, but it really is a screenshot.
Diney McAllen’s photostream is full of blogging photos, SL travels, and just an avatar having fun in her Second Life. She is hard to put into a simple description, but then, that’s half the fun.
