Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Lunaspina’s stream is a whole mood and that mood is melancholy. The fog-shrouded building with the shadow of a lone person feels cold and lonely. She amplified the melancholic mood by adding a texture layer that created a sooty feeling to the entire scene. Her picture reminded me of Christine L. Corton’s London Fog: A Biography in which she tells how the ancestral fog that so thoroughly inhabited the city for centuries before dissipating in our more environmentally-conscious time.

“Missed What I Never Had” makes me think of bootleggers driving the country roads to avoid the “revenuers.” It’s funny how the movies make moonshining and bootlegging a southern thing such as in Dukes of Hazzard, except of course for the organized crime in Chicago and New York.
My grandfather was convicted of moonshining. I knew that but learned so much more when I ran into a stranger in Salem, OR, whose accent I recognized. When we exchanged family connections he told me a lot about my grandfather and the whiskey he produced, which was labeled Minnesota 13. His dad sold my grandfather the sugar he used in making whiskey. My uncle bootlegged it through northern Minnesota and North Dakota. This just looks so much like what I imagine my uncle’s nighttime driving adventures might look like.
Combine the dark, foreboding sky in this picture with the empty swing and it has a post-apocalyptic feel. Like was there a neutron bomb? Chernobyl? Love Canal? Where are the people?
I love the moodiness of Lunaspina’s stream. There is this portentous feeling, of big stories like Jack the Ripper, Al Capone, and mass evacuations. Or perhaps it is just my mood infecting what I see. Art can be like that, a reflection of the viewer as well as the artist.
