I wonder if VRChat will ever get to the point of having a system like SL where avatars have attachment points to enable the easy swapping of things like clothing and other accessories? I have no idea of what % of the SL economy is accounted for by fashion, but it seems to be huge. The convenience of being able to buy new clothing or hair, etc., at any time and then wear it must, I assume, be the motivation for many purchases.

@Kaylee I think most in VRChat would reject and recoil to the idea of paying for something they don't actually get to own, as is the case in Second Life.

The expectation is if you pay for it, you get a hard-drive copy of the files to do with as you wish, for use in VRChat or any other platform.

I’ve been thinking about ways they could implement an accessory system for the avatars. Reason being is that I’ve seen a bunch of avatar creators sell accessories and clothing options that are tied to a specific base, and still require knowledge with Blender/Unity to get it working properly on a users own avatar.

DISCLAIMER: I do not work at VRChat Inc., these are just my thoughts on how they could implement such a system.

My hope for the future is that when the in-app creator economy launches, a creator can simply upload let’s say, a hat, and it would link to the head of the avatar root bone, and you can swap it on and off in an inventory not tied to the avatar itself, but from the creator economy.
Possibly set up some sort of demo object and demo avatar in the VRC Creator Companion/Unity Project to say “This is how a ‘Hat Object’ should be oriented”.

Anything you buy would be visible on the creator economy dashboard under purchases, and you can download them directly to your hard drive. Or have an auto-download purchases option to a specific drive location on your computer.

That might be easier if they had an in-app avatar creator that followed the same avatar base design. Something they might have to consider in the future.

Those are just my thoughts
