Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Ambrosia Caiben has an intriguing photostream that veers from adorable pictures of animals enjoying tea at a table to gothic cosplay scenes to romantic portraits and erotica. It is consistent, though, in its excellence. I love “Illusion” with her strategically-placed butterflies and tree-branch wings. It feels very mystical. It’s simply glorious. She has the credits on her blog, but the text is illegible on top of the photo.

“Skadi” was exciting to see. She is the Norse goddess of the hunt. I love the headdress of autumn leaves and the fox head. I love how the light makes the leaves shine while she and the fox head are in shadow. She looks like Skadi with that fox, a symbol of her role as huntress. This picture reminds me of Hedningarna’s Räven which is a Swedish word and not a bird. It means The Fox in English. The lyrics as “Är du kvinna eller räv?” Are you a woman or a fox? An English translation of the lyrics are here. You can see how perfectly the song and the picture go together.
Hedningarna is one of my favorite bands and “Räven” is one my favorite songs. The band name is The Heathens which is appropriate because they mix old pagan lyrics and ancient and traditional instruments as well as newly invented instruments (a band member is a luthier) with a modern musical sensibility. Several songs feature yoik, a sort of yodel from Saami culture. I am Swedish and Saami on my dad’s side and the music speaks to me. My sister introduced me to them years ago and I have been studying Swedish on Duolingo, more for listening to Hedningarna than for any practical reason.
“Knowledge is Magic” almost seems like a picture for this moment in history where books are being banned not just in schools, but in public libraries, and even (unsuccessfully) in bookstores. Perhaps that is why they want to ban the books, to keep the magic of knowledge from us. There is a truly whimsical feeling about this, though. I think it is that thoughtful finger to her lips that make it absolutely perfect.
