Seen that way, it makes more sense to think of Vision Pro as the next generation of a high-end desktop computer, like the Mac Pro.

Maybe it makes even more sense to think of Vision Pro as a portable computer with an M2 chip (e.g. a MacBook Air starting at 1.1K USD) together with multiple high-end displays, e.g. Studio Display (starting at 1.6K USD) or Pro Display XDR (starting at 5K USD) or a 75+ inch OLED TV (starting at 1.5K USD).

Another aspect: if you buy it early, for how much will you be able to resell it? My best guess would be that people will be able to resell their devices without losing much (if any) money as long as production capacity is limited. Some might even be able to make money by reselling early devices.

And then you add all the people who buy expensive devices just to show or pretend that they have enough money to afford them or that their work is so important/valuable that the device is profitable to them.

My (somewhat paradoxical) prediction is that it will be difficult to know whether the device will flop, because demand will outpace production for a while. By the time it even has a chance to flop, Apple might already release a second generation.

I agree. As I wrote few days ago: "I think I'd like an iPad or a portable computer with a virtual screen as wide as you want, and that leaves your hands free.":

Strapping a closed environment computer screen on your head directly in front of your eyes will be medically supported by the same doctors that say smoking is good for your health. I've always said Apple was inherently evil without regard for its customers. This is just more proof.
