Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Lily Niles’ “Dolphins” are adorable. I think it’s a given that dolphins are adorable. And people love them. I love them, too, from a distance. It would be cool to “swim with dolphins” though I never would. I believe in keeping the wild wild. I would hate to see some deer walk right up to a hunter because they associated people with food. The animal often loses in the end. But they sure are cute.
Because Lily shot from this angle, they seem to be interacting with someone or something to the left of the frame. It adds a bit of “story” to the picture that makes it more intriguing.

“Solitude” is striking with its simplicity. I love how the colors of the sky obscure the actual horizon and make a visual “horizon” at a third of the way down, following the Rule of Thirds in a different way. I want to swing on that swing, though I suppose in real life, the tree would quickly erode or be displaced by the tide. One of the advantages of Second Life. Our trees don’t waste away.
“All a Boy Needs” is nostalgic for childhood when someone else did the existential worrying for us. It was our parents who kept the lights on and the food in the fridge. We all had our own concerns but could lose ourselves in play…or in fishing. So there he sits with his fishing poles, tackle box, and the most important ingredient for a perfect afternoon, his dog. I hope he catches his limit.
Lily Niles’ photostream is full of beautiful landscapes and striking photos of people in nature. She has a knack for taking a picture of a sidewalk or an alley that makes them feel magical, as though if you step inside, you enter another world. Even a backyard provides grist for her mill. I like that she plays around with the camera, shooting from above, below, and everywhere in between, seeking to find the best angle before she snaps her SL shutter.
