Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Magical SL Reflections is exactly what it sounds like -- a Flickr group devoted to pictures of reflections in Second Life. Over 1000 members strong, there are lots of people gazing into the water and boats' rippled reflections. Some are truly magical, like this one from Ice Rock called “The Lighthouse.” The moon is spectacular and its reflection even more so. The way the lighthouse flashes completely captured me. This is what I was looking for.

This unnamed picture from Bambi Foxdale is beautifully refined. The reflection looks and feels right:
It’s not easy to achieve this look, technically speaking. Water is Second Life’s only reflective surface and it’s often disconcerting because to make that water in the mirror, the whole bathroom has to be sideways and your avatar has to be sideways and it always made me a little seasick. I have done reflections in the past and well, and even wrote some tutorials for how to do this:
I am glad that Physically-Based Rendering may make my tired 2012 tutorials completely obsolete. Bambi did a much better reflection picture than I did.
“Reflection Island” from Mysterious Guy gives us a twist on the more quotidian landscape with water. The definition is really high and with the shift in color, it gives the impression of a mezzotint print or perhaps photogravure. I appreciate the effort to make the picture about more than a reflection, but the sense of permanence that comes with processes as difficult as those.
Magical SL Reflections is a fabulous Flickr group full of beautiful pictures. The landscapes and seascapes are gorgeous. So are the self-portraits and fashion pics. This is a well-moderated group so the pictures all meet the remit of showing reflections. While I focused on some of the more unusual reflection pics, there is no picture that is not worthy of your attention thanks to the moderation. It really is a joy to swim in this stream.
