Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Jeff Goodnight takes such sharply defined pictures that you can imagine zooming in and seeing a ladybug on the flowers. You can’t, but it sure seems like you could. Look at everything you can see in this picture. There’s a person up by the house, a chicken by the “bathing shed” and a bike by the outhouse. There isn’t, however, a person in the boat. Nor someone swimming near the boat which is what you would hope for. No matter how sunny the sky, when I see an empty row boat adrift in a lake, my thoughts run toward the morbid.

“Voodoo in New Orleans” is a perfectly eerie street in The Big Easy. That bellhop with the luggage is a bit sketchy. The sex worker was probably an extra on vampire docuseries. The two people are just rude. I love the detail. It seems like I could count the angels on the head of a pin, but there are no angels on this street, a street being reclaimed by the relentless determination of Scotch broom.

“Everwinter” is another pic with the longest draw distance in the west. The text on the building is in Cyrillic which makes me wonder if this city was inspired by Pripyat, the Ukrainian town with an amazing urban forest that has taken over after it was abandoned post-Chernobyl. It had a ferris wheel, too. If you’re not afraid of the radiation, to teleport, click here.
Jeff Goodnight takes pictures that make me want to go and see these places for myself. I usually run around with a short draw distance to reduce the lag, but these pictures encompass an entire sim so he has his draw distance set high and cranks up the detail. And so he gives us a stream of pictures that capture entire sims, revealing not just their secrets, but setting a mood for our visit. If we dare to go. Let no texture go unrezzed! I am suddenly very envious of his computer’s power.
