Cajsa's Favorite Second Life Images of 2023 -- Plus Several More Selections to See Before 2024!

To celebrate my favorite Second Life images of 2023, check out this gallery I put together above. 

This got me thinking of all the pictures I wanted to feature this year but didn’t -- until now. These are some of the best that didn’t make it to my columns.

Engelsstaub Resident posted Chili Days in 2021 but I only saw it this year, just last week as I was looking for pictures to highlight for 2023. I saw she had a blog and then quickly discovered she was on hiatus so it seemed “wrong” to feature her now disused blog. But I regret that I didn’t discover her in 2021 when she made this extraordinary picture. Doesn’t it make you hungry? When I first saw it, I thought she was mixing real life and Second Life photos. Of course, in real life, people are neater when they cook because whatever mess you make, you have to clean up.

Here’s another adorable picture that I skipped over. Here’s the problem with a lot of my favorite pictures…they are by people whom I have already featured at least once, maybe twice, or more, and even more. Some people post lots of pictures and every single one of them is good and most of them are great. There are a couple dozen people I could do a column on every week, the quality and quantity of their work is just that good. Hut there are still so many other good people, too, far more than I can ever capture.

Here is another. I featured Tess V in February and here she is in September posting this fabulous picture that just blew me away with its casual realism. I love this picture. I love how at ease she is in the world. I love how I had to ask myself whether it was real or virtual like those old is is live or is it Memorex commercials.

There is just no excuse for not featuring “She isn’t just any woman” by Pink Arkin. I faved it and the one before it and probably got distracted by my cat who resents every second I am at the laptop and who insists, as she is at this moment, on sleeping between me and the laptop. Her glorious pictures should have been featured when I saw them, but here they are in my catch-up column. Bad kitty! This one was inspired by Casablanca and they do capture that era and the cinematic feeling. 

Then there are those like this one from Squeeze that are just inconveniently oriented for a blog post. I have no excuse for not going through her stream and finding horizontal pictures, though will they have the same appeal? I don’t know. This is just so free and easy. I love it but it is just not a blog-friendly orientation. Do I scale it up to be wide enough and probably too long? Or leave it as it is and wrap text, what is the best option? Don’t make me have to think so hard. 

And then there are the beautiful pictures like “Intimacy” that if included would make this column unacceptable to Google, some Facebook groups, and so on. That makes me sad for us as a people. There is a difference between what is prurient and what is not. This is not. It’s an aesthetic appreciation of human beauty.
