Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Gillian Galicia’s picture’s title, “I’m Half Sick of Shadows”, quotes an important line from a poem by Tennyson, at the end of Part II of “The Lady of Shallot”:
Or when the moon was overhead
Came two young lovers lately wed;
'I am half sick of shadows,' said
The Lady of Shalott.
That last line inspired John William Waterhouse to paint the Lady of Tennyson's poem in a red dress -- which is what links Gillian’s picture to Waterhouse’s lovely painting (one of three inspired by the poem).

“Truth Coming Out of Her Well” is not just the title of Gillian’s picture, but also of a painting by Jean-Léon Gérôme, once figured to be the world’s most famous artists.
Gérôme did other paintings of Truth in a well. He disliked the Impressionists, and his work was hauling people back to realism -- but he may have been talking about photography brings Truth out of her well. As he once wrote, “It is thanks to photography that Truth has finally come out of her well. She will never go back.”
Gillian finds inspiration in more than paintings, often using lines from a poem or a song. Here she takes the title of Gordon Lightfoot’s song, “The Summer Side of Life”. She posted this picture in memoriam of his death last year. I love this picture. To me, her pose suggests being startled which we almost always are when a favorite artist dies. It also captures the melancholy nature of the song when a man is looking back to the summer side of life. The title sounds happy, but the song is more like an elegy.
Gillian Galicia offers her followers a lot in her photostream, not just lovely pictures, but also some of her thoughts on life, snippets of poems, songs, and recreations of great art. She also provides credits as her pictures were for her blog, Gillian’s Island. However, according to her profile, her blog is on hiatus while she contends with a cancer diagnosis. Still, she’s posting and providing picture credits as well as commentary, so she’s still keeping busy and giving us a lot to value.
