Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Cyp Hill creates such a wide variety of pictures, you might be surprised that he is the subject in nearly every one of them. Of course, that’s true of many Second Life artists who can alter their identity with a few clicks going from man about town to the things that creep around in nightmares.
This image, “Shotgun Rider” is a great example of the man about town with his sweetheart. I love how the city lights pick up the bits of chrome on the dashboard while the flow of oncoming traffic is turned into a river of light by his speed. This is an example of his most defining artistic characteristic, his careful use of light in the darkness.

“No Name” casts his entire avatar in shadow except the bit of light catching on his open jacket zipper. The name is actually suggested by the peaked ears that suggest some iteration of Batman. A Batman with a hoodie? The subject is very sharply defined even though cast in shadow while the background is blurred as the focus is one the subject.
Cyp explained that he finishes all his images in Photoshop: “I always make my images from scratch inside SL on the Firestorm viewer and a green screen with Photoshop as my editing software. Also I don’t use any filters on any of my work, it’s my own editing techniques of tones, light, etc. that I’ve developed over the years from experience.”
“Nothing Else Matters” shows us an incredibly sharp image, so sharp you might swear you can see every rock in that mesa. Behind that, can you count every star in the sky? Again, the light picks up the details in his car while he seems to duplicate the black and white dichotomy of the scene with his body bisected by this white shirt and black jacket. It’s a brilliant composition.
Cyp said that experimenting is important to him, keeping his art fresh. “I like to to keep experimenting in whatever that may be so I do all kinds of things to keep my mind inspired about editing or else I’d get bored and lose my passion for it since I have been editing photos since 2011, it’s just about giving myself a challenge and just try new things for fun as I love editing in whatever form that may be, it’s a very relaxing and therapeutic thing for me to do.” Indeed, he does.
Cypress Hill’s photostream is always fresh and interesting as his avatar changes from scary monsters to party monsters. He’s definitely living his best life in SL and generously sharing it with us.
