Wandering New York SL is a Flickr group devoted to a Second Life sim recreating that metropolis. It’s funny, I’ve been to New York state several times but have never been to New York City -- except in Second Life where I immediately trapped myself under this very subway entrance. This was just one of several black and white photos by John Francis LaVille, all fabulous photos that could have been shot by a real camera, but for the lack of people. Kian’s untitled picture captures part of the New York zeitgeist, a city where you can see anything. Why not a scary clown with a creepy doll coming off the subway like a serial killer? If it’s going to happen anywhere, it will happen in New York. However, to be fair, New York City is not even in the top 50 for homicide rates. On the other hand, it’s number one for TV crime shows.
"With great power comes great responsibility," is an exciting photo of SpiderMan from Ethan Takeda Lane. Spider-Man contributes to the idea that New York City is dangerous, but I don’t care. I love Spider-Man.
I love “Who’s Got the Munchies?” from Sydney Couerblanc. It’s another pic that has the feeling of being real. It also has the feeling of a frenetic city, full of fast people, fast cars, and fast days and nights. It’s a very clever use of radial blur.
Kacey Macbeth gives us “Bird’s Eye View” with pictures of the sempiternal residents of New York. I love the view from their perspective, those marvelous New York citizens.
Wandering New York SL is a well-moderated group that has not been tainted by spam and irrelevant, off-topic photos. With 548 members and more than 1200 pictures, there is a lot to enjoy. I hope you join and add your own pictures from New York City SL
