Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
I started looking for virtual world storm pics after a conversation with my brother in Minnesota, which was hit with 4 inches of rain in the last two days. I remember my delight in the rain outside Cream Shop long ago. I needed to find some rain today and Rain and Storm SL, a group of 659 members and more than 2,000 well-moderated pictures, came through.
“Never Let Me Go” is a romantic picture, two people so into each other they ignore the pouring rain. The tail lights make them stand out in red, the color of passion. It’s a fabulous picture from Persephone Smythe. I love her use of light and color.
Audrina Tolsen shared this picture taken by Angel Reignz. It’s a great snap with lovely lighting but what I love most is how her dress illustrates how far SL has come. When I started Second Life, we could spend hours in the rain and our clothes remained relentlessly dry. I love our new wet clothing that lends so much verisimilitude to our pictures as in this other gem.

Lam Erin’s “Spring Rain” is one of those don’t-do-this-in-real-life pictures of a couple and a dog fishing in the rain. You can see the cloud illuminated by a flash of lightning. I suppose the pole to their right will be struck instead of them but is there metal to conduct the electricity to them? The picture is adorable, but don’t do this at home. It is so hard to choose just one of his pictures, though. I mean, look at this or this or this.
Sam Rougefeu presented this beautiful picture of Rainy Alley which he blogged about in Rainy Alley: A Nostalgic Second Life Gem, giving us not only some great pics but also some history of the sim.
Tintin Tuxing asks “Why does it always rain on me?” I think we all know the answer to that. Pick sunnier sims! Still, would a sunny sim give us such an atmospheric picture? I am certain someone has just been murdered or is just about to be. We need all the rain for our trenchcoated detectives. They would look silly in the sun.
Uma Fae Kush shared “Letting Go,” a painterly picture of loneliness. I love how beautifully it shows her alone, even the wildflowers give her space. It looks like some of the flowers have gone to seed, the end of their life cycle is drawing near. Even the rain will not freshen them. Nonetheless, it is not a despairing picture. The blue sky promises the rain will stop soon.
Rain and Storm SL is definitely the place to go for a rainy day even when the sun is shining. Some of the participants share the SLurl, but it is not a group mandate. The group is moderated so all the pictures show a storm or rain. There are no sunny days there. Also no fashion pics, vendor pics, or porn. It’s a delight.
