Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Karma Weymann’s “Twistable” is a quintessential example of her art, a picture of her avatar, often in an awkward or uncomfortable position. Her avatar is the focus. In this nude portrait, her body is dressed in the bright satin of sunlight and the deep, soft velvet of shadows. It’s beautiful. Her pose makes me think of a modern dance movement. There is tension in the leg that is supporting her, you can almost see her swinging back up into a jump or melting forward into some sort of roll. You expect movement.

Well, this is unexpected. “Working on My Exhibit” is a title of expedience as she had an exhibit opening shortly after she posted this. I love how whimsical this picture is. Again, the pose holds tension in her body. Even sitting in a chair, she feels dynamic.
“Leg Up” makes me think of 1930s Berlin clubs with Lotte Lenya singing the Alabama Song. There’s that director’s chair that suggests this is for a film, maybe by Kurt Weill. There is this feeling of tired waiting. You can almost hear her thinking “Let’s get on with it.” The torn stockings give her this louche feeling, an appealing demimonde, perhaps a little disreputable, but in the most charming way.
Karma Weymann’s work is instantly recognizable. It’s funny how she can shoot pics of a youthful, appealing avatar in lots of lingerie and skimpy clothing, lounging, posed on a couch or a bed, or wearing a casual outfit out of doors and never once look like she’s taking a pic for a fashion post. Her pictures always seem like Art with a capital A. But why?
For me, I think she captures her anima. Her avatar is not passive, even resting on a couch there is this energy, a tension that makes the picture dynamic. I wonder if in real life Karma is a dancer. She seems to understand movement. I’ve written about her before, five years ago. It's interesting how back then I was also struck by her use of light and how she posed her avatar. I hope someday she has a show in a first life gallery so they can appreciate the dynamism of SL art.
